OPM Begins Notifying Victims of Background Investigations Breach
10.6.2015
NTEU67

NTEU was briefed by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Acting Director Beth Cobert and was informed that notifications have begun for the approximately 21.5 million individuals affected by the background investigations breach announced in early June. Out of the 21.5 million individuals, 19.7 million are individuals that applied for a background investigation, and 1.8 million are primarily spouses or cohabitants of the applicants.

The union believes that it took far too long for the notifications to begin. For months, federal employees and their families endured a rollercoaster period of anxiety and vulnerability.
